AI & The Future of Work

Hosted at the Microsoft Berlin Office, our biggest event of the semester. A panel on how rapidly advancing AI systems are reshaping labour markets and employment in Germany and across Europe, with speakers from the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, Microsoft, Indeed Hiring Lab, interface, and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, moderated by Ole Teutloff (University of Oxford). The conversation covered empirical evidence on jobs and wages, distributional impacts, and the policy tools governments actually have on the table.

The focus was on where European AI governance is genuinely failing, why those failures resist easy fixes, and which solutions have actually stuck.

On 23 March, hosted at Ojin AixHaus, we brought together practitioners, technologists, and students to look at the gap between AI governance on paper and AI governance in practice. The evening opened the CIVICA EU AI Hackathon, a three-day student-led event in Berlin organised with IE Madrid and SNSPA Bucharest.

Co-hosted with SAFE AI Germany: a roundtable on where Germany and the EU sit in a race overwhelmingly framed as US versus China. We discussed whether Europe is destined to be the world's regulatory checkpoint, or whether there is still room to build a sovereign ecosystem that keeps top talent and shapes where AI goes next.
